Partial small bowel obstruction

Neisseria elongata can cause a wide range of Infectious manifestations including peritonitis. Peritoneal dialysis related peritonitis can be due to Neisseria. CKD and poor nutrition are important risk factors for Neisseria related peritonitis. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) can result in peritonitis, which frequently causes severe and near-fatal clinical implications if left untreated. Usually, Gram-positive bacteria are the most common organisms involved. Uncommonly recognized as the cause of peritonitis in PD patients, Neisseria Elongata is a gram-negative nasal and oropharyngeal normal flora organism. Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is a rare, but sometimes fatal, complication of peritoneal dialysis characterized by diffuse thickening and encapsulation of the bowel and peritoneum.

In more advanced cases, the peritoneum will gradually calcify. EPS usually presents as partial small bowel obstruction and diagnosed on imaging studies. We present a case of a 19-year-old female on long-term peritoneal dialysis with EPS and diffuse peritoneal calcifications.Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) is an uncommon, however often fatal, condition characterized by diffuse thickening and encapsulation of the bowel and peritoneum. While idiopathic cases have been described, secondary EPS has been associated with peritoneal dialysis or abdominal tuberculosis, among other etiologies resulting in peritoneal inflammation. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the major cause of mortality and morbidity in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Adiponectin, a key adipokine, is related to obesity and insulin resistance. We determined the clinical and prognostic value of plasma adiponectin level and its adipose tissue mRNA expression in new PD patients.
